Blank MyPlate Worksheet: Fill In the Plate
Free printable blank MyPlate worksheet: label the five food-group sections on an empty plate, then write or draw a food in each. Name and date lines, answer key, free to copy.
1. Labels first, foods second
Have students place all five group names before adding any foods. The layout itself teaches the proportions, and a mislabeled section shows up immediately when the foods don't fit.
2. Drawing counts
Younger students can draw a food in each section instead of writing it; the learning is in choosing the section, not the spelling.
3. Ask the proportion question
Why are the vegetable and grain sections bigger? That one question turns the worksheet into the whole MyPlate message: fill half the plate with fruits and vegetables, and make the bigger half vegetables.
4. Extend it with a real meal
As a follow-up, students redraw last night's dinner onto a second blank plate and compare. The gap between the two plates is the discussion.
Plate proportions follow the USDA MyPlate graphic (Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020-2025). MyPlate.food is independent and not affiliated with the USDA. Free to print and copy for classroom use.
