What is the MyPlate quiz?

The MyPlate quiz is a free set of short, multiple-choice quizzes on the five USDA MyPlate food groups — fruits, vegetables, grains, protein foods, and dairy — plus the MyPlate plate model itself.

  • Six quizzes in all: an overall MyPlate quiz, plus one for each of the five food groups.
  • A handful of questions each — pick an answer and it shows the correct one with a short explanation, so you learn as you go.
  • Rebuilt from the food-group quizzes once hosted on ChooseMyPlate.gov, the USDA site retired along with MyPlate.gov in January 2026.
  • Grounded in public-domain USDA MyPlate guidance and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

It's a quick way for students, teachers, and anyone curious to check what they know about building a balanced plate. MyPlate.food is an independent tool; USDA is credited only as the source of the underlying guidance.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the official MyPlate quiz?

No. MyPlate.food is an independent educational tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the USDA. These quizzes are written to rebuild the kind of food-group quizzes once hosted on the government's ChooseMyPlate.gov site, with questions and explanations grounded in public-domain USDA MyPlate guidance and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

What happened to the MyPlate quiz?

The official quizzes lived on ChooseMyPlate.gov — the USDA's original MyPlate website, which later moved to MyPlate.gov — and went offline when the USDA retired that site in January 2026. The interactive food-group quizzes are no longer available on any government site. These quizzes preserve that learning format independently, using the same public-domain guidance the federal materials were based on.

Are these quizzes based on USDA guidance?

Yes. Every question and explanation is grounded in public-domain USDA MyPlate guidance and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020–2025. USDA MyPlate is credited only as the source of that underlying guidance — MyPlate.food does not speak for the USDA.

How many questions are in each quiz?

Each quiz is short — about 8 to 10 multiple-choice questions — so it takes only a few minutes. The MyPlate overview quiz covers all five food groups, while the vegetables, fruits, grains, protein, and dairy quizzes each dig into a single food group.

Are the MyPlate quizzes free?

Yes. All of the quizzes are completely free, with no sign-up required. You can take them as many times as you like, and every quiz shows the correct answer and a short explanation after each question so you learn as you go.
