MyPlate Coloring Page

Print the five-section plate, color each section its food-group color, and draw a food in each, the K-2 way into the five groups. Key included, free to copy.

1. Say the color rule out loud first

Fruits are red, vegetables green, grains orange, protein foods purple, dairy blue: the colors of the MyPlate icon. Chant it once before the crayons come out and the sheet teaches the groups twice: once by name, once by color.

2. Draw before you write

Kindergarteners draw one food they like in each section; second graders add the food's name beside the drawing. Same sheet, two grade levels.

3. Hang them up

A wall of finished plates is the classroom's own MyPlate poster, and every child can find theirs and name all five groups from it.

4. Step up to the blank plate

When the names are automatic, the blank MyPlate worksheet removes them: students label each section from a word list, then fill it. Same plate, one notch harder.

Section shares and colors follow the USDA MyPlate icon; food-group guidance follows the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020-2025. MyPlate.food is independent and not affiliated with the USDA. Free to print and copy for classroom use.
